The Independent Commission of Enquiry (ICOE) held its fourth meeting from 10 to 12th December 2018.


The ICOE met with U Kyaw Tint Swe, Union Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor and Mrs. Christine Burgener, the United Nation’s Special Envoy to Myanmar. During the dialogue with Union Minister, ICOE informed him on the progress of their work. They also discussed how to strengthen ICOE’s Secretariat and duties and functions of the Evidence Collection and Verification Team (ECVT).


During the dialogue with Mrs. Christine Burgener, the UN’s Special Envoy to Myanmar, the ICOE updated her on their press conference for the launch of the
“Call for Submissions”. The Call for Submissions have been uploaded on the ICOE Website and Facebook in two languages. The ICOE will soon upload the Rakhine and Bengali versions. The Special Envoy reiterated their support to the ICOE’s work and offered technical assistance if and when required.


The members of ICOE discussed in detail the work of the Evidence Collection & Verification Team (ECVT). The ECVT currently have two legal experts who are reviewing the evidence and documentation. The ICOE also welcomed two international experts who are assisting them in literature research and documentation.


The ICOE discussed engagement with ASEAN, UN and other international organizations to inform them of the key developments.


The fifth meeting of the ICOE is scheduled for January 2019.
